After his five-year, nine-figure deal completes, Ryan Murphy is done with Netflix. However, his next stop has surprised people as he now prepares to head to Disney.
Murphy, the creator behind projects like Pose, Glee, and American Horror Story, left 20th Century in 2018 for a $300 million deal at Netflix. While at the streamer, he crafted signature series like Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Hollywood, and Ratched.
As the deal ends in the next month, the producer/filmmaker is expected to reunite with Dana Walden, the now co-chairman of Disney Entertainment. Murphy and Walden worked closely at the then-20th Century Fox TV. THR describes Walden as “Murphy’s closest friend and confidant.” We’ll also see Murphy back with FX’s John Landgraf, who was there for Murphy as he created memorable television moments like Nip/Tuck and the still-ongoing American Horror Story.
THR also noted that this began before the Writers Guild of America went on strike in May.
After his move to Disney, Murphy still has a few series in development with Netflix. Murphy will continue producing installments of Netflix hits Monster, with season two focusing on the Menendez brothers.
As yet, neither Disney nor Murphy have commented on the situation.
