Ryan Reynolds says Deadpool will be his last superhero role

July 8, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Ryan Reynolds is certainly no stranger to the superhero movie, having appeared in Blade: Trinity, X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Green Lantern, and as he gears up to appear at the San Diego Comic-Con to promote next year’s X-Men spinoff Deadpool, the actor has told The Huffington Post that the Merc with a Mouth will be his final superhero role.

“We all want to be Batman alone at home in our specifically-sewn Bat pajammies, but no, I have no desire to play any other superheroes after this. Hopefully we’ll get to do Deadpool again. Given the fact that it’s rated R, the fans have to show their support for it, and they have to come out and make it worthwhile for the studio to make another one, but that’s it for me. I’ve punched that superhero card a few times now, and that’s enough.”

Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Deadpool is is set for release on February 12th 2016 and sees Ryan Reynolds reprising the title role alongside T.J. Miller (Transformers: Age of Extinction) as Weasel, Morena Baccarin (Gotham) as Copycat, Gina Carano (Fast & Furious 6) as Angel Dust, Ed Skrein (Game of Thrones) as Ajax, Andre Tricoteux (Seventh Son) as Colossus and newcomer Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead.
