Netflix has tapped Sacha Baron Cohen to lead the cast of its upcoming espionage series The Spy, which is being written and directed by Gideon Raff, creator of Prisoners of War, the series which Homeland is based upon.
Variety reports that Cohen will play Eli Cohen, an Israeli spy in the early 1960s who “managed to embed himself into Syrian high society and rise through the ranks of their politics. His actions, connections, ultimately his death have had lasting consequences, shaping the Middle East as it is today”.
Cohen was last seen in 2016’s action comedy Grimsby and Disney sequel Alice Through the Looking Glass. He has reportedly been working on a secret mockumentary film, which according to rumours will feature an appearance from disgraced football star and actor O.J. Simpson.
The six-part series will debut globally on Netflix, except in France where it will air on OCS.
