Way back in 2002 it was announced that Warner Bros. had snapped up the rights to Mandrake the Magician, a character often referred to as the first comic book superhero, and now The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that it has found its star in Sacha Baron Cohen (Bruno, Grimsby).
Mandrake the Magician was created by Lee Falk (who would subsequently create The Phantom) in 1934 as a syndicated comic strip, which ultimately ran until 2013. The character and his assistant Lothar also featured in the 1980s cartoon Defenders of the Earth alongside The Phantom and Flash Gordon.

Mandrake the Magician is yet to receive a script, but has Etan Cohan, writer of Tropic Thunder and director Get Hard, attached to helm.
