The novel, written by Emily Brontë under the pseudonym Ellis Bell, was published in 1847. Set in the moorlands of England, it follows the lives of Heathcliff, an orphan taken in by the Earnshaw family, and Catherine Earnshaw, his childhood friend and love interest. The novel explores their tumultuous relationship, spanning Heathcliff’s vengeful pursuit of Catherine’s love and its lasting impact on their families and subsequent generations.

Wuthering Heights is considered a classic of English literature and has seen multiple adaptations. A 1939 film directed by William Wyler starred Laurence Olivier as Heathcliff and Merle Oberon as Catherine. There’s also a 1992 film with Ralph Fiennes and a 2009 TV Mini-Series starring Tom Hardy. The most recent came from Andrea Arnold, which starred Kaya Scodelario and James Howson.

Fennell will reportedly reunite with studio MRC, but there’s no word on the cast and crew as yet.
