In a move that will make fans scream as loud they did in the Cavern Club circa 1961, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Oscar-winning filmmaker Sam Mendes will team up to bring audiences four separate movies about the iconic music band The Beatles.
Mendes (1917, American Beauty) will direct all four films, and each will focus on a member of the fab four, the world famous Liverpudlian band comprised of Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, John Lennon and George Harrison.
The films will mark the first time that The Beatles, including the families of the late John Lennon and George Harrison, and Apple Corps. Ltd have granted the full life story and musical rights to a scripted film.
Mendes pitched the ambitious project as four interconnected stories, one from each band member’s point of view, and that his idea was met with a positive reaction from McCartney, Starr, Sean Lennon and Olivia Harrison.
Each film will chart the coming-of-age stories of Paul, John, George and Ringo, their subsequent rise to becoming global recording artists, and the different directions their lives took following the band’s breakup in 1970.
