Last night it was reported that Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future), Matthew Vaughn (X-Men: First Class) and Sam Raimi (Spider-Man) top Warner Bros.’ shortlist for the director’s chair on the DC solo movie The Flash, but it seems we may be able to scratch one of those names from the list.
According to EW, Sam Raimi has passed on the opportunity, as has The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 director Marc Webb. Robert Zemeckis is thought to be the studio’s number one choice, although he is currently prepping a feature adaptation of the documentary Marwencol, which has him tied up until late 2018.
Meanwhile, it seems that Kevin Smith – who has experience with the Scarlet Speedster, having directed episodes of The CW TV show, has also thrown his hat into the ring…
I know of at least one Director who wouldn't pass. (But to be fair, he's more of a "director" than a Director…) https://t.co/LIyTI6gRu0

Seth Grahame-Smith was originally hired to make his feature directorial debut on The Flash, but pulled out due to creative differences – as did his replacement, Dope helmer Rick Famuyiwa.
Ezra Miller is set to reprise his role from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad and the upcoming Justice League as Barry Allen, alongside Kiersey Clemons (Dope) as Iris West and Billy Crudup (Alien: Covenant) as Henry Allen.
