THR is reporting that Sam Raimi has signed on to direct a mystery thriller based around the Bermuda Triangle, which is being produced by Skydance Productions and has been written by Doug Miro and Carlo Bernard (Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time).
The project is one of three competing Bermuda Triangle projects in development, with films also in the works at Warner Bros. and Universal. Plot details for all three are being kept closely under wraps, particularly to avoid giving away who or what is behind the Triangle’s mysterious disappearances.
Raimi hasn’t directed a film since 2013’s Oz the Great and Powerful, although he has circled several over the past year, including the tornado action adventure Stormfall, an adaptation of the non-fiction novel The Next 100 Years titled World War 3, and a remake of the French crime drama A Prophet.
He also remains attached as a producer on the planned adaptation of the acclaimed video game The Last of Us, although he said back in November that this was at a “standstill”.
