Variety is reporting that Sam Taylor-Johnson is set to direct her husband Aaron Taylor-Johnson in a feature adaptation of James Frey’s book A Million Little Pieces.
Originally published as a memoir telling the story of Frey’s rehabilitation from drug and alcohol abuse, the author subsequently admitted on The Oprah Winfrey Show that he had fabricated much of the story following an expose article on The Smoking Gun.
The book was originally optioned by Warner Bros., who decided to shelve the adaptation following the controversy over its authenticity. However, the Taylor-Johnsons reportedly still feel that there is appeal in the story of a man’s road to recovery.
A Million Little Pieces will mark the second collaboration between the two following Nowhere Boy, a biopic of a young John Lennon. Sam Taylor-Johnson recently helmed episodes of the Netflix series Gypsy, while Aaron Taylor-Johnson is currently filming David Mackenzie’s Outlaw King.
