According to Variety, Oscar winner Sandra Bullock has signed on to play Texas senator Wendy Davis in Let Her Speak, a drama penned by Mario Correa, which has Todd Black and Jason Blumenthal on board to produce through their Escape Artists banner.
The film will tell the story of Davis, a little known senator who became a national icon on the subject of abortion after filibustering for eleven hours in order to stall an anti-abortion bill in the Texas state house, delaying its passage beyond the midnight deadline for the end of the legislative session. The bill would have closed all abortion clinics in Texas, and increased restrictive abortion regulations.
Bullock has recently completed production on Warner Bros.’ female-led Ocean’s Eleven spinoff Ocean’s Eight, and is preparing to start shooting Netflix’s post-apocalyptic sci-fi Bird Box.
