Academy Award nominee Sandra Hüller is set to star alongside Ryan Gosling in Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s long-gestating adaptation of Andy Weir’s Project Hail Mary.
According to Deadline the Anatomy of a Fall and The Zone of Interest star will capitalise on her stellar 2023 by going into outer space for the Amazon MGM Studios adaptation.
Based on the book by The Martian author Andy Weir, Project Hail Mary will tell the story of middle school science teacher named Ryland Grace (Gosling), who wakes up on a spaceship with no memory of who he is or how he got there. He must figure out how to complete his interstellar mission to save Earth from an astronomical catastrophe completely alone, until he meets a mysterious alien who has traveled light years to save his own species from the same fate. There are no details on the role Hüller will play.
The film will be directed by the 21 Jumps Street duo of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who will work from a script written by The Cabin in the Woods scribe Drew Goddard.
Clearly hoping to have the same level of success that Ridley Scott had in adapting Andy Weir’s debut novel The Martian (7 Oscar nominations and $630 million at the global box-office), Lord & Miller also have an adaptation of the author’s 2017 science-fiction novel Artemis in development.
