With NBC moving full steam ahead on a small screen sequel to Cruel Intentions, Deadline is reporting that the network has approached Sarah Michelle Gellar with a view to her reprising the role of Kathryn Merteuil from the 1999 movie, and that the actress is currently reading the script.
The series has been developed by Roger Kumble, writer and director of the original film, and will follow Kathryn “as she vies for control of Valmont International, as well as the soul of Bash Casey, who is the son of her brother, the late Sebastian Valmont (Ryan Phillippe), and Annette Hargrove (Reese Witherspoon).
Since the end of Buffy the Vampire Slayer in 2003, Gellar has only appeared in two pilots, Ringer and The Crazy Ones, both of which went to series. She has also made occasional guest appearances in TV shows, most recently Star Wars Rebels, where she voices the Seventh Sister.
