Saw: Legacy, the next instalment of the Saw franchise, is coming and much sooner than expected. Variety has announced that Smallville and Bitten actress Laura Vandervoort and Shoot the Messenger’s Hannah Anderson are set to star in the horror sequel, and not only that, but the film was secretly shot last November for an October 27th, 2017 release date.
This is surprising because the last we heard of it was in the summer after Peter and Michael Spierig were tapped to direct the film with a start date announced for September – October 2016, but no casting announcements or further news was ever revealed. The fact that the film is already in post-production means we should probably expect more casting news, and even a first trailer, in the very near future.
Saw: Legacy be the first Saw film in seven years. The franchise has been about a brilliant killer who creates death traps and kidnaps people who have taken life for granted, hoping they will realize their potential through physical, and bloody, sacrifice. Series creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell are said to be acting as executive producers while Dan Heffner and Oren Kroules, the producers on every film in the series, are once again on board.
