The eighth film in the Saw franchise has been given a new name, swapping Saw: Legacy for the title Jigsaw.
This will be the first Saw instalment in seven years and is to be directed by siblings Peter and Michael Spierig from a script by Pete Goldfinger, Josh Stolberg, James Wan, and Leigh Whannell.
The Saw franchise started back in 2004 and revolved around the murderous exploits of John Kramer, aka Jigsaw, who uses gruesome traps to torture his victims, forcing them to play a game to escape.
The movie was shot last November and will release four days before Halloween this year on October 27th in the US.
The synopsis for Jigsaw reads: “Dead bodies begin to turn up all over the city, each meeting their demise in a variety of grisly ways. All investigations begin to point the finger at deceased killer John Kramer.”
Tobin Bell will be returning as Jigsaw in some capacity.
Jigsaw has been directed by Peter and Michael Spierig (Predestination), and features a cast that includes Mandela Van Peebles, Hannah Anderson, Laura Vandervoort, Brittany Allen, Callum Keith Rennie, Matt Passmore, Hannah Emily Anderson, Josiah Black, Shaquan Lewis, Michael Bolsvert, and James Gomez. It is set for release on October 27th.
