Last month it was reported that Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) was in talks to join DreamWorks’ adaptation of the anime classic Ghost in the Shell, but it seems those negotiations have fallen through as Deadline is reporting that the studio has made Scarlett Johansson (Lucy) a $10 million offer to lead the film.
Ghost in the Shell centres on a covert ops unit who specialise in fighting technology related crime. Based on the manga by Masamune Shirow, it was adapted into an anime in 1995, while a live-action adaptation has been in the pipeline at DreamWorks since 2008. Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) is currently set to direct, from a script by William Wheeler (The Hoax).
