Scarlett Johansson has signed on to star in the psychological thriller Tangerine, which will reunite her with her Hail, Caesar! co-star George Clooney, who is producing the film alongside Grant Heslov.
Based on Christine Mangan’s as yet unpublished novel – which has just been snapped up by HarperCollins for a cool $1.1 million – Tangerine is “set in 1950s Morocco is about a woman named Alice Shipley who tries to leave both her past and her college roommate behind after the man she intends to marry suddenly dies. Years later, she reconnects with that same roommate, Lucy, and then Alice’s husband disappears. The mystery leaves Alice to wonder if Lucy is as dangerous as she thinks or whether she is imaging things.”
“Christine has created an evocative and electrifying novel,” said Dan Friedkin of Imperative Entertainment. “We’re thrilled to not only be working with George, Grant and the talented team at Smokehouse Pictures but also one of the most skilled actors on the planet in Scarlett. This is an all-star team, and we can’t wait to bring this stunning tale to life.”
Johansson’s next release is the animated musical Sing, which opens in December, followed by the live-action Ghost in the Shell movie on March 31st 2017 [watch the first trailer here]. She also has the comedy Rock That Body arriving in June 2017, and will soon be reprising the role of Black Widow as Avengers: Infinity War goes into production.
