Scott Free Productions and New Sparta Films have tapped Dave Collard (Out of Time, Annapolis) to pen the script for the CIA thriller Neither Confirm Nor Deny.
Based on David H. Sharp’s book The CIA’s Greatest Covert Operation: Inside the Daring Mission to Recover a Nuclear-Armed Soviet Sub, the film will detail Project Azorian, a six-year CIA operation to raise a lost Soviet nuclear submarine which sank in 16,000 feet of water in the Pacific Ocean in 1968.
Despite a cover story involving ocean mining, fronted by reclusive billionaire Howard Hughes, details of the operation were revealed by the press, prompting the CIA to issue the response that “We can neither confirm nor deny”.
Ridley Scott and Kevin Walsh of Scott Free are producing the project with Christopher Simon of New Sparta and Maggie Monteith of Dignity Film Finance.
