The Flickering Myth team react…
There was an awful lot to discuss coming out of the Warner Bros. and DC panel yesterday from Hall H, but none more so than the second trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (watch it here if you’ve not seen it already). But what did our writing staff think?
Amon Warmann: Thumbs up.
Gav Logan: Epic
Oliver Davis (Flickering Myth TV Producer): Holy trailer, Batman! Makes the first teaser look paltry in comparison. Ben Affleck looks freaking great as Bruce Wayne. Only downsides – looks like there will be young Bruce flashbacks (not interested in seeing that again) and trailers shouldn’t be this long.
Luke Owen (Deputy Editor): There’s so much to complain about: it’s directed by Zack Snyder, the CGI looks unconvincing, it’s just going to be an explosion fest like Man of Steel, Jesse Eisenberg’s hair looks stupid… BUT… none of that matters. At all. Nope. Not at all. This film looks AWESOME. Insane. Epic. Brilliant. Outstanding. Not enough words to describe how incredible those last few shots are.
Oliver Davis: THE TRAILER IS ALMOST AS GOOD AS THE PIANO LED ONE FOR MAN OF STEEL… wait a second…
Martin Deer: Now I’m interested. Very interested.
Gav Logan: I will say that the CGI looked weird against that color palette but still Goosebumps!
Oliver Davis: I didn’t see Jack Black in there?
Gary Collinson (Editor-in-chief): Superb, so much better than the first trailer. Some amazing visuals. Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman all look great, and the action looks epic. Still not entirely sold on Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor, but other than that I really can’t wait to see more.
Chris Sanderson: I’m pleasantly surprised. I have been shitting on this movie for a long while and well, I can say I was wrong this does look brilliant. Affleck looks incredible as Bruce, always been behind the casting for him.
Villordsutch: I’m still not swayed over by this latest trailer. We know Snyder can pull together a relatively good trailer, but this chamber music bag of jigsaw pieces still hasn’t filled me full of hope. Nor has it made me want to watch Ben Affleck as Batman anymore than the last one did? Also are we to assume this post 9/11 – downfall of Metropolis – representation of Bruce Wayne has now taken to using a branding iron, as well as the before seen cannons upon the Batmobile. This still reeks of Hack Snyder to me and I truly hope however I’m wrong for Batman’s sake upon its release.

Chris Sanderson: He seems to know the only way to stop Supes is by… killing…him. Oh fuck don’t ruin it Synder.
Martin Carr: Affleck looks good in this and if that tone can carry through to the finished article then I’m in. I understand the reservations about Snyder but this trailer kicks the last one into touch. Giving us a glimpse of that broader canvas which this film needed. I may well watch it again in a short while. Ultimately it will fill the gapo between now and the release of the next Star Wars trailer….
Helen Murdoch: Think I vommed in disappointment
Martin Carr: Harsh, but each to their own… could be worse could be the Ghostbusters revamp trailer…
Scott J Davis: Epic. Spectacular. Awesome. Despite my reservations (still) about Snyder directing, it looks superb and has all the elements in place, but whether those elements make a satisfying whole remains to be seen. Think this will silence the Affleck haters though, looks like perfect casing just as I thought….
Manny Camacho: It has numerous points, both great and small. Opens up a lot of new questions regarding the dynamics of the characters toward one another and has multiple snippets of a grave plot point. I’m eager to see more. I’m excited for this film.
Chris Cooper: Count. Me. In. When Cavill’s hairline is my biggest issue you know I’m onboard. This Batman has the chance to be definitive. That’s how well he comes across in this trailer to me.
Kris Wall: So much better than the first trailer, properly interested now. Almost made up for Man of Steel…..almost.
Rob Kojder: I don’t have a single complaint , it looks incredible
Anghus Houvouras: Epic. Amazing. Mind blowing. Can’t get over that shot of Bruce Wayne running into the cloud of debris from a fallen skyscraper. That’s the most Batman moment in the whole trailer. Everyone else runs away…. I like the set-up. I like that Man of Steel now means something and destroying Metropolis will be a major plot point in the next movie. Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman looked awesome. I was a little ambivalent towards Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor. He felt like a little sleight in a very heavy, very dark trailer. I love it, im sold (as if i wasn’t already). Geek boners aplenty.
James Garcia: I’ve literally been waiting for this film my entire life, so needless to say, my expectations are through the roof. That said, I was absolutely blown away by this trailer – it exceeded even my wildest hopes. I love that Snyder has ditched the muted photography of Man Of Steel and replaced it with something more stylistic and in his wheelhouse; that will fit the superhero spectacle much nicer. Batman looks incredible (you’re right Anghus, the shot of Bruce running toward the debri is jaw dropping, the most definitive Batman shot on film, in my opinion), and Wonder Woman looks like a badass. I’ve long been a supporter of Jesse Eisenberg’s casting, but was a bit underwhelmed by him here. I got a kick out of the “red capes are coming…” line, but beyond that he left me a bit cold. Perhaps it’s that crazy ass wig. Overall, this did nothing but raise my excitement for the film, which was already astronomical. I could pick something I love out of just about every frame of this 3 minute video and absolutely cannot wait to see the whole thing.
J-P Wooding: Trailer looks good and I’ll go and watch of course, but I’m still not sure about the story. I’ve always known super hero movies to be the hero vs the super villain; I know they’ll be a “big bad” but I just hope it isn’t a “shake hands to unite against the bad guy.” I want it to be fantastic and not just a “what if” scenario. Never had a problem with Affleck’s casting and he looks like HE is Batman.

To our recollection, this has to be the most overwhelmingly positive reaction we’ve had in recent memory (read the others here). Even Anghus liked it! What did you make of the trailer?
