SDCC: Justice League Action to include 152 DC Comics characters

Yesterday, Cartoon Network released a highlight reel to show off its new DC Comics animated series, Justice League Action. Now, thanks to an interview conducted by Slashfilm, we have a few more details about the series, including the revelation that it will feature a whopping 152 different characters from the pages of DC Comics.

That roster includes 60 different heroes, and 40 different villains, according to producer Butch Lukic. While he of course didn’t go into full details about who we could expect to see, he did reveal that while the Trinity of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman would be “featured in most of the stories,” iconic and niche characters would be peppered in throughout the 11-minute episodes.

That list includes favorites like Plastic Man, John Constantine, Lex Luthor, Mr. Freeze, Riddler, Mr. Mxyzptik, Zod, and Darkseid, as well as lesser-knowns like Demons Three, Space Cabby (voiced by Patton Oswalt), Atrocitus, and Steppenwolf. Expect to see plenty of characters from the New 52, as they were requested specifically by DC, and were “all the characters the producers already wanted.” According to Lukic, “The list of characters in there were what they wanted and it was pretty much the ones everyone wants, plus some odd ones. We definitely got most of those in, plus a few that we thought of that would fit.”

Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman lead the DC Comics Super Heroes against their most infamous foes in adventures packed with relentless thrills, fun and action. No need to wait for the good stuff to start, each eleven-minute episode jumps in with lightning-paced action and heroics. Whether defending the Earth, facing invaders from space, or battling the bizarre forces of magic, the always-rotating team of Justice League heroes, are up to any challenge.

Justice League Action will feature the voice talents of Kevin Conroy as Batman, Mark Hamill as The Joker, Tara Strong as Harley Quinn, James Woods as Lex Luthor and Diedrich Bader as Booster Gold. The series will consist of 11-minute episodes, and is expected to get underway later this year.
