Guardians of the Galaxy star Sean Gunn – brother of James Gunn – has claimed he has read the script for his brother’s The Suicide Squad reboot and production on the film should be underway very soon.
In a statement via ComicBook.com, Sean says the script for The Suicide Squad is “really good” but doesn’t confirm whether he will have a role in the upcoming DC movie.
“We’ll see,” Gunn says of a role. “I know that he’s [James] very excited about shooting and now that I have read the script for it and I will say nothing other than that it’s really good. And I know that he’s pretty jazzed about it, so I’m definitely excited to hear what happens next. But they start shooting soon.”
Warner Bros. has set a release date of 6th August 2021 for The Suicide Squad. Therefore, Sean’s comments on production starting soon would seem to correlate with the release schedule. The film is to be directed by James Gunn and produced by Michael De Luca, Dan Lin, Peter Safran, Zack Snyder, and Deborah Snyder.
The film stars Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag) and Viola Davis (Amanda Waller) who are reprising their roles from the first film. Additionally, Idris Elba (Luther) and John Cena (Bumblebee) will play as-yet-unrevealed characters, with David Dastmalchian (Ant-Man) as Polka-Dot Man and Daniela Melchior (Valor da Vida) as Ratcatcher.
