The spooky Adam Sandler-starring animated comedy franchise is still coming back for another trip. Variety reports that Hotel Transylvania 4 will keep its intended August 6th, 2021 release date, and looks to usher in a new era.
Not only are Jennifer Kluska and Derek Drymon helming the project, marking the first time Genndy Tartakovsky isn’t directing a Hotel Transylvania film, but co-lead Selena Gomez is upping her role in the production. It’s reported that Gomez will serve as one of the executive producers, alongside Tartakovsky and Michelle Murdocca.
The horror-inspired animated franchise is popular, despite any critical lashings the films get. The three movies have generated about $1.3 billion at the worldwide box office and landed a spin-off series. The last outing, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, went on to gross over $520 million on just an $80 million budget.
Gomez stars alongside Adam Sandler, where she plays Mavis, the far more modern daughter of Sandler’s Dracula. Andy Samberg rounds out the cast as her human husband, who is still getting used to his other-worldly new life. The trio is expected to return for this upcoming sequel.
