The crimefighting duck is coming back for another round of action as Variety reports that a Darkwing Duck reboot is in early development at Disney+.
Sources close to Variety say that Alex McAtee of Point Grey Pictures will oversee the company’s project. While there are currently no writers attached, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, and McAtee are executive producing.
Darkwing Duck is part of a much larger universe, with the titular superhero’s sidekick Launchpad McQuack originally appearing in the original DuckTales series. The original Darkwing Duck series was created by Tad Stones and ran from 1991-1992 for three seasons, totalling over 90 episodes. The voice cast included Jim Cummings as Darkwing Duck, Christine Cavanaugh as Gosalyn, and Terry McGovern as Launchpad.
In the recent DuckTales reboot, Darkwing and Gosalyn have appeared. In that version, Darkwing is a fictional character from an old superhero TV series. In Season 2, Mallard, the Darkwing Duck fan club president, gets the chance to become Darkwing in real life and begins fighting crime. Gosalyn was introduced in Season 3.
