A few years ago, Shailene Woodley (The Fault in our Stars) was cast as Mary Jane Watson in Sony’s critical failure The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but was eventually cut from the movie as the producers wanted to focus on the relationship between Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy. The plan was then to move all of Woodley’s filmed scenes into The Amazing Spider-Man 3 which, as we now know, will never materialise.
With the news that Spider-Man is getting the reboot treatment (again) to appear in Captain America: Civil War before getting his own movie in 2017, would Woodley like to return to the Mary Jane role?
“Heck yeah,” she told Clevver Movies while promoting The Divergent Series: Insurgent. She also noted that she had not heard the news of Spider-Man joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as presumably you don’t get the Internet when living under rocks for the last month or so.
The fan reaction to the casting of Woodley back in 2013 was not favourable, with several petitions set up to recast the role. Which of course meant nothing, as per usual.
We’ll next see Shailene Woodley on the big screen in The Divergent Series: Insurgent which is out later this month. The Flickering Myth Movie Show discusses the movie in the pilot episode which you can see below:
