The highly anticipated sequel to 2019’s Shazam!, titled Shazam! Fury of the Gods, has shifted its release date a few days from December 16th, 2022 to December 21st, 2022.
According to Deadline, Warner Bros. has decided to move the DC sequel to avoid sharing the same release date as Avatar 2, which is now officially titled Avatar: The Way of Water, following Disney and Avatar producer Jon Landau confirming at CinemaCon that the James Cameron-directed sequel would be released theatrically on December 16th.
While the first Shazam! film was a critical and box office hit after grossing $366 million on a $100 million budget, the decision to shift release dates is seemingly a smart move since the DC sequel would have been going head-to-head with the sequel to the highest-grossing film of all time – which currently sits at $2.8 billion.
