Amid multiple delays and a change in director, its been a good while since we’ve had any word on the planned Sherlock Holmes 3, but while speaking with Screen Rant for the release of Sweet Tooth season 3, producer Susan Downey was asked about the state of the sequel, which would reunite Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law.
Although she couldn’t give fans a concrete date for the third film, the producer says it’s still very much happening:
“I mean, look, no, there’s no update other than it’s still very much alive in our hearts,” said Downey. “Every day, we talk about ‘What is the best next version of that?’ Because anytime I see Robert and Jude together, which fortunately, I do get to see a few times a year, we hang out, and I’m just like, ‘Can I get these guys back on screen together?’ it’s magic.”
There needs to be a really strong reason; it needs to be a great story, and we do have some things in the works,” Downey continues.

Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes, starring Robert Downey Jr. as the famed detective and Jude Law as his faithful friend and partner, Dr. John Watson, was released in 2009 and became a box office success. Ritchie directed the sequel Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows in 2011, which saw the pair face off against Sherlock’s archnemesis, Professor Moriarty, a battle that seemingly claimed Sherlock’s life, while Dexter Fletcher (Rocketman) was brought in to direct the third instalment back in 2020.
