Last night the BBC aired the finale of the fourth series of Sherlock, with ‘The Final Problem’ slumping to a ratings low for the show with 5.9 million viewers overnight.
The previous week’s ‘The Lying Detective’ had pulled in 6 million viewers in overnight ratings, down considerably from the opening episode ‘The Six Thatchers’, which attracted 8.1 million viewers.
One factor for last night’s ratings is that the episode was also screened simultaneously in over 300 cinemas across the UK, which would surely have cut into the viewing figures. And of course the overnight rating doesn’t take into account delayed viewing figures; for comparison, ‘The Six Thatchers’ rose to 11.3 million and ‘The Lying Detective’ to 9.53 million once all viewing figures were in.
