Here’s some disappointing news for anyone looking forward to the Lin-Manuel Miranda-produced adaptation of Patrick Rothfuss; The Kingkiller Chronicle, as Deadline is reporting that Showtime has passed on moving ahead with the potential series.
Showtime originally picked up the rights in 2017, fending off competition from multiple interested parties, but has now opted against moving forward and released the prospective series back to Lionsgate TV. Lionsgate however is currently shopping the package to other outlets, with Apple mentioned as a possible new home.
A prequel set a generation before the events of the trilogy’s first novel The Name of the Wind, The Kingkiller Chronicle “will follow a pair of wandering performers on their adventures through the unique and startling world of Temerant, immersing audiences in a universe of unexpected heroes, mystical places, and terrifying dark forces.”
Lionsgate had been planning both a TV series and movie based upon the fantasy series, along with a number of interactive games, with Miranda serving as creative producer across all of the various projects.
