Renegades, the popular indie action revenge thriller won praise for it’s “ear-worm” retro rap theme song performed by Shug Jackson and we have an exclusive look at the track’s new music video.
Renegades director Daniel Zirilli explains: “I came up through the ranks in film by directing hundreds of music videos – mostly rap/hip hop, and used to be in a band and write songs… so while directing the film Renegades I started to have this hook playing in my head for a potential theme song. So I wrote the lyrics and melody and sent to my good buddy Shug Jackson- who completed the song, then we sent it to the film’s producer Jonathan Sothcott – and he loved it so it ended up in the films climax. Directing the music video with rap legend – Shug Jackson (who also had a small cameo in the film) was very satisfying to me creatively as it just started as a small idea now manifested in the completed music video we present now. Enjoy!”
Shug Jackson said “Working with Daniel Zirilli on the Renegades video, was great, the man is truly a wizard and master at directing. Watching him work is like being in class, he teaches without knowing it and his vision is something that takes it to another level. I’m truly Grateful to work with him!”
Shogun Films founder Jonathan Sothcott, who produced Renegades, commented “when Daniel first suggested a rap song for the film I was initially sceptical, not really seeing how it would fit our ‘Geri-action’ caper but it’s such a catchy tune and has a real 90s vibe and every time we screen the movie people walk out humming it. I am delighted it turned out so well and Daniel has done his usual polished job on the subsequent music video.”
Renegades, which stars Nick Moran, Lee Majors, Danny Trejo, Patsy Kensit, Billy Murray, Jeanine Nerissa Sothcott and Michael Paré is currently available around the world on VOD and Digital Platforms. It has been nominated for two prestigious National Film Awards in London next month and will play in Spain’s upcoming NIAFFS Action Film Festival. Renegades was written by Tom Jolliffe, who has also penned Flickering Myth’s upcoming gothic horror movie The Baby in the Basket.
Shogun Films is currently in pre-production on espionage thriller Knightfall which will be directed by Ben Mole, followed by contained action thriller Crossfire. Both will shoot in the fourth quarter of 2024.
