Shuri dons her own Black Panther costume in unused concept art from the Marvel blockbuster

February 19, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

A piece of concept art has arrived online from Marvel’s Black Panther: The Art of the Movie which sees Letitia Wright’s Shuri, the sister of Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa, wearing her own alternate take on the Black Panther suit. Check it out here…

In the comic books, Shuri has taken on the mantle of the Black Panther for a time when T’Challa was incapacitated, so perhaps this is something we might get to see playing out in the inevitable sequel to the box office smash.

Asked about that very possibility by Comic Book, Wright responded: “I hope, whenever the time is right if it’s meant to happen, I would happily do it. But you can’t have a Shuri movie without T’Challa and you can’t have a Shuri movie without Ramonda and Nakia and the rest of the Dora Milaje and Okoye. So, I guess, the question is: when can we have Black Panther 2?”

After the events of Captain America: Civil War, King T’Challa returns home to the reclusive, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to serve as his country’s new leader. However, T’Challa soon finds that he is challenged for the throne from factions within his own country. When two foes conspire to destroy Wakanda, the hero known as Black Panther must team up with C.I.A. agent Everett K. Ross and members of the Dora Milaje, Wakandan special forces, to prevent Wakanda from being dragged into a world war.

Black Panther sees Ryan Coogler (Creed) directing Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa alongside Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Michael B. Jordan as Erik Killmonger, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Forest Whitaker as Zuri, Daniel Kaluuya as W’Kabi, Angela Bassett as Ramonda, Florence Kasumba as Ayo, Martin Freeman as Everett Ross, Andy Serkis as Ulysses Klaue, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Sterling K. Brown as N’Jobu, John Kani as King T’Chaka and Nabiyah Be as Nightshade.
