Shang Chi hasn’t been seen since his solo film, and fans wonder when the new MCU hero will return. It seems like the actor behind the character has an answer for us.
Simu Liu recently sat down with People to discuss his work, particularly what it feels like to be included in the wild world of Marvel Studios. He expressed his joy about ‘breaking barriers’ in the industry and said he could be doing it again even sooner.
“I’m such a big fan of both the characters and the performers that play them, so any collaboration is an opportunity for me to work alongside someone who, in their own way, is breaking barriers and at the very top of their game,” Liu told People. “I think that’s what excites me the most as a performer, [and] also as a fan.”
He went on to tease, “who knows, they might see something sooner than you think. We’ll see.”
The MCU is in an interesting spot. While fan backlash for certain films is growing, there’s still plenty excited for the Multiverse Saga featuring Jonathan Major’s Kang. We don’t know precisely where Simu Liu’s Shang Chi fits into this, but there’s a lot of speculation surrounding the Ten Rings he captured in his 2021 film playing a major role in proceedings.
Given Liu’s background with Brie Larson, could the actor appear in The Marvels perhaps following Captain Marvel’s post credits appearance in his first solo outing? Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton is also helming Avengers: Kang Dynasty, so we can presumably at least expect a Shang-Chi appearance there, while he is also attached to a Shang-Chi sequel although that is presumably further down the line.
