It looks like Universal Pictures will be gender-swapping the title role of the upcoming Universal Monster remake The Mummy.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service) is in talks for the title role, while Tom Cruise (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation) also remains in negotiations for a role.
Following her breakthrough in Kingsman, Boutella is set to appear in next year’s Star Trek Beyond, and will also join Charlize Theron and James McAvoy in the spy thriller The Coldest City.
The Mummy will kickstart Universal’s shared Monster universe, and is currently slated for release on March 24th 2017, with Alex Kurtzman directing from a script by Jon Spaihts.
