Since the moment they announced a Sonic movie, fans have talked about a team-up with Tails. The sidekick, introduced in the iconic game’s 1992 sequel, is a massive part of the movie’s universe and something that even star James Marsden wants to see.
Marsden is seemingly getting his way after the 2020’s film’s post-credit scene saw the character show up in search of Sonic, and now director Jeff Fowler recently spoke to Syfy Wire about his excitement at bringing the fan-favorite character to his movie universe.
“Of all the screenings that I would pop in for, seeing people’s reaction to Tails showing up at the end, nothing could have prepared me,” Fowler said. “To see people respond and having these kids just shout at the screen, and just yell their little brains out. I just never got sick of it.”
He continued to gush about his love for the fan’s hype, adding: “I just loved it. And the idea that we made this whole movie, and we didn’t have a single scene of Sonic and Tails together. It’s incredible, but it also is so exciting [for a sequel].”

Even though Fowler is happy for a sequel, he did mention that Paramount Pictures has not yet greenlit a follow-up to Sonic the Hedgehog, but once the current health crisis is over he expects to delight fans with news of Sonic and Tails teaming up on the big screen.
