Despite mixed reviews, FX is celebrating bumper ratings for Kurt Sutter’s Sons of Anarchy spinoff Mayans MC, with last week’s series premiere setting a number of records.
According to THR, the series premiere averaged 6.8 million viewers, topping the original Sons of Anarchy premiere by 46% and scoring the biggest cable series premiere of 2018, the highest-rated cable premiere in the 18-49 demo since January 2016, and the biggest ever series premiere for the FX network.
Whether those ratings will hold up into the second episode and beyond remains to be seen, but let us know in the comments below what you made of the series premiere, and whether you’ll be tuning in for the rest of the season.
“Set in the aftermath of Jax Teller’s death at the end of SOA’s seven-season run in 2014, Mayans MC will focus on the struggles of Ezekiel “EZ” Reyes, a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the California/Mexico border. EZ is the gifted son of a proud Latino family, whose American dream was snuffed out by cartel violence. Now, his need for vengeance drives him toward a life he never intended and can never escape.”
Mayans MC features a cast that includes JD Pardo, Edward James Olmos, Sarah Bolger, Clayton Cardenas, Richard Cabral, Michael Irby, Raoul Trujillo, Antonio Jaramillo and Carla Baratta.
