Sony and Marvel Studios are reportedly clashing over Spider-Man 4

January 26, 2024 by EJ Moreno

Spider-Man 4 is almost certainly a go with Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios teaming again, but is there trouble in paradise?

In a new story, there’s a bit of an update on the fourth MCU Spider-Man entry, which would once again star Tom Holland. There is a clash of tone and style, with Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige not liking Sony’s direction.

DanielRPK notes that Feige and Holland want something more grounded. In terms of grounding, they want it to be more of a street-level approach, going as potentially bringing Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin into the new film.

In the report, rumblings have Sony on the side of wanting something a bit wilder. The studio “wants to take the opposite approach” and go the route of bringing back Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield again for a “much bigger multiverse spectacle.”

Early in 2023, Spider-Man 4 began developing the story, but things were paused due to the WGA strike. With those behind us now, development is back underway. At the time of writing, there is yet to be any word about when the next film might begin production.

The online reception for the story has been mixed. Some want us back with the Spideys and going total multiverse madness again, while others crave the more New York street-level story. What would you prefer for Spider-Man 4? Let us know on our socials @FlickeringMyth…
