Deadline is reporting that Sony has enlisted writers Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett (MacGyver, 12 Monkeys) and producers John Davis and John Fox (Game Night, Dolemite Is My Name) for a feature film reboot of the classic American sitcom Bewitched.
The original series ran between 1964 and 1972 and starred Elizabeth Montgomery as a witch who marries an advertising executive (Dick York, and later Dick Sargent) and tries to enjoy a normal suburban life whilst hiding her powers and her crazy relatives from her family and friends.
Bewitched was recently brought back into the spotlight thanks to Marvel Studios’ WandaVision series, which paid homage to the show and its setup.
Sony previously produced a feature film adaptation in 2005, with Nora Ephron directing and Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell leading the cast. While that was a romantic comedy, the new version will be different, although its jumping off point will still be the classic sitcom setup.
