The Tracking Board is reporting that Will Gluck (Easy A, Annie) has signed on to write and produce an adaptation of Beatrix Potter’s Peter Rabbit, which has been set up at Sony as a live-action/animation hybrid film and is said to combine elements of several of the classic children’s stories. Gluck is set to rewrite a first draft of the script by Rob Lieber (The Cat in the Hat, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day).
Peter Rabbit made his first appearance in 1902’s The Tale of Peter Rabbit, and subsequently featured in five more books between 1904 and 1912. The character has featured in several TV adaptations, including the BBC’s The World of Peter Rabbit and Friends and the CGI-animated CBeebies series Peter Rabbit. In 2012, British actress Emma Thompson was commissioned to pen a trilogy of new tales to celebrate 110 years since the publication of the first story – the success of which is said to be a driving factor behind the new Hollywood adaptation.
Well, that and the 150 million books that have been sold over the years…
