Sophie Turner calls Game of Thrones petitions “disrespectful”

May 21, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Sophie Turner, who starred as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones, has blasted trolls putting up petitions against the show as “disrespectful” to all those who have worked so hard.

Game of Thrones has been one of the most remarkable achievements in TV history, changing the way we look at what a TV show can be capable of in terms of scope and production.

Pleasing all of its myriad fans was always going to be a tough ask and with some fans feeling entitled to the ending they had envisioned in their heads, there are some internet users who have taken umbrage with the show not giving them what they wanted in its final season.

Sophie Turner, one of the stars of the show, has blasted those who have put out petitions against the final season as being disrespectful, telling The New York Times that its an insult to those who have worked so hard providing a piece of entertainment for audiences to enjoy:

“All of these petitions and things like that — I think it’s disrespectful to the crew, and the writers, and the filmmakers who have worked tirelessly over 10 years, and for 11 months shooting the last season. Like 50-something night shoots. So many people worked so, so hard on it, and for people to just rubbish it because it’s not what they want to see is just disrespectful.

“People always have an idea in their heads of how they want a show to finish. So when it doesn’t go to their liking, they start to speak up about it and rebel.”

It’s easy to see why someone like Turner might be a bit miffed at these online events. She can surely take heart in knowing, however, that the series she played such an integral part of has enthralled audiences for so many years, delighting and shocking them week after week with its twists and turns.
