Spelunky 2 revealed, watch the game’s first trailer here

October 30, 2017 by Andrew Newton

Mossmouth Games revealed that Spelunky 2 will be coming to the PS4 at today’s Paris Games Week PlayStation Conference.  Developed by Mossmouth, the people behind the first game and Blitworks, Spelunky 2 will offer players more of the same exciting gameplay.  Watch the new trailer below…

No release date has been mentioned and it is not known if this will be coming to the Xbox One, however, as the first game saw release on multiple platforms it is hoped that the same will happen with the sequel.  The trailer doesn’t give many details away although the one thing we know for sure is that the game will revolve around the child of the original game’s protagonist, a moment made all the more poignant in the trailer by him slowly vanishing from a photograph to the words, ‘….following in fading footsteps’.

In his Playstation Blog post Derek Yu explains, “As you can see from the trailer, parenthood has had a big influence on Spelunky 2’s story and themes. For now, I’ll leave it to your imagination what it all means, but I will say that there are similarities between being a parent and working on a sequel. Both involve a lot of reflecting on the past as well as thinking about the future.”

Look out for more news on Spelunky 2 over the coming months.
