HOMECOMING BRING HOME THE GOLD
After a string of incredibly positive reviews, it looks like the opening weekend for Marvel Studios/Sony’s Spider-Man: Homecoming could be huge. The studio has projected a modest $80 million domestically but the film could earn anything between $85-$110 million, and $200 million worldwide. This would best both The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but fall short of Spider-Man 3‘s $151 million. Read more here.
Jon Watts was confirmed to direct Spider-Man 2 last week, and the director has been talking about which villains he’d like to see in future Spidey outings. The tone of [Mobius] is pretty dark, but the vampire/Marvel Universe thing is pretty cool,” Watts told We’ve Got This Covered. “Maybe we could get Blade to show up, too? In a new interview with F. Gary Gray, it’s been revealed that a CGI Paul Walker was considered for The Fate of the Furious at one point. The actor passed away during the filming of Furious 7 and a CGI model was used to send the character off, and a similar technique was considered for the 2018 blockbuster. “We had hundred of conversations about the best way, the classiest way to handle and address Paul’s legacy in this franchise,” he told ScreenRant. “You know, there’s multiple ways you can go. You could create a digital Paul and make him more of a character. You could leave him out and pretend that he’s in this world anymore. These are all conversations we had and we felt like the choice we made respected his legacy the best. And my understanding is that his family was really happy with how we treated him.” Read more here.
Castlevania producer Adi Shankar has announced his next project: an anime series based on the video game franchise Assassin’s Creed. “I’m happy to let you guys know that I’ve selected my next project,” stated Shankar. “I played the first edition of Assassin’s Creed the year I moved to Los Angeles to pursue my dream. At that moment I knew absolutely no one in the industry and could never have imagined that one day Ubisoft would ask me to take the world of Assassin’s Creed and create an original story set in it as an anime series. After all the issues the film had getting off the ground earlier this year, Matt Reeves is now looking a possible trilogy of films for The Batman. “I have ideas about an arc, but really, the important thing is just to start… you have to start with one,” the director told Fandango. “You know, you have to start with a story that begins something. And I would be lying if I could tell you that the arcs of Apes was already planned out, because it simply wasn’t; it’s one of those things where that character was so potent, and the possibility was embedded from the beginning, but exactly how you’ve got from A to Z is not something that existed.” Read more here.
Director Colin Trevorrow is clearly excited for Star Wars: Episode IX, but does has his concerns. “Unfortunately, [Star Wars: The Last Jedi director] is the first one I won’t be able to watch as an audience member,” said Trevorrow in an interview with Empire. “I got that privilege with The Force Awakens. I just got to go see it with a Star Wars fan. I got to sit next to my kid and just giggle as we read the crawl because we were so excited. Rogue One was the same way. I didn’t see it in advance. That time is over now. Star Wars is no longer that experience for me. If there’s anything kind of sad about it, it’s that I don’t get to have that.” Read more here.
