The 25th Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards took place last night in the USA, and the winners were a veritable mix of some of the year’s best indie films.
Tom McCarthy’s Spotlight was the big winner on the night with three awards including Best Feature, Best Cast and Best Screenplay. British actress Bel Powley won the Best Actress award for her superb performance in The Diary of a Teenage Girl, while Paul Dano won Best Actor for his portrayal as Young Brian Wilson in Love & Mercy.
Elsewhere, iPhone-filmed sensation Tangerine won two awards, the Audience Award and Best Breakthrough Actor for Mya Taylor, while acclaimed documentarian Joshua Oppenheimer won the Best Documentary Award for The Look of Silence.
