Thor star Ray Stevenson looks set to reunite with Disney, with THR reporting that the Volstagg actor is swapping the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the galaxy far, far away with a role in Lucasfilm’s upcoming Disney+ series Star Wars: Ahsoka.
Details on Stevenson’s role are being kept under wraps, but he joins a cast that includes Rosario Dawson as former Jedi Ahsoka Tano, reprising her role from The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, as well as Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker and Star Wars newcomers Natasha Liu Bordizzo (The Society) as Sabine Wren and Ivanna Sakhno (Pacific Rim: Uprising) and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Birds of Prey) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
As it happens, Stevenson has previously appeared in Star Wars, having lent his voice to the brutal Mandalorian warrior Gar Saxon in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. A former member of Death Watch and devoted follower of Darth Maul during his reign over Mandalore, Saxon served as his homeworld’s puppet ruler on behalf of the Empire following the Siege of Mandalore. He also briefly wielded the Darksaber in battle with Sabine Wren but was defeated before being killed by Sabine’s mother Countess Ursa Wren.
Although Saxon is dead by the time of Ahsoka, the series is expected to feature flashbacks (see the inclusion of Hayden Christensen), and so it’s certainly possible that Stevenson could be following in the footsteps of Katee Sackhoff (Bo-Katan Kryze) by reprising his animated role in live-action. For the time being however, we can only speculate, and it’s equally possible that Stevenson will be appearing as a different character entirely.
Production on Star Wars: Ahsoka is expected to get underway in April.
