It had already been revealed that Star Wars Rebels’ Sabine Wren would be making the jump from animation to live-action in the upcoming Star Wars: Ahsoka Disney+ series, and now during Star Wars Celebration it has been revealed that the Mandalorian warrior will be joined by a couple of her old shipmates from the Ghost.
As part of yesterday’s Star Wars: Ahsoka panel, Rosario Dawson – reprising her role as Ahsoka Tano from The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett – was joined by Natasha Liu Bordizzo (The Society), with Lucasfilm not only confirming reports of her casting as Sabine but also bringing out Rebels’ cheeky astromech Chopper on stage to announce his involvement too.
The surprises didn’t stop there, as fans in attendance were also treated to some early footage from the series, which included a shot of Dawson’s Ahsoka on the bridge of the Ghost alongside Hera Syndulla (seen only from behind), a potential Jacen Syndulla tease, and a live-action recreation of the final scenes of Star Wars Rebels as Sabine looks on at the mural of the Ghost crew.
Although plot details are being kept under wraps, all of this – and Ahsoka’s name-dropping of Grand Admiral Thrawn during her appearance in The Mandalorian – all but confirms that the Ahsoka series will pick up the threads of Star Wars Rebels, which ended with its protagonist, Jedi hopeful Ezra Bridger, transported across the galaxy along with Thrawn, there whereabouts unknown.
Despite the teases, both Ezra and Thrawn remain unconfirmed for the show at the time of writing – as does Luke Skywalker, although with Luke last seen alongside Ahsoka in The Book of Boba Fett and currently twiddling his thumbs after his offer to train Grogu was declined, an adventure in search of a missing Jedi sounds like an opportunity he’d pass up as he continues his efforts to pass on what he has learned and rebuild the Jedi Order.

In addition to Rosario Dawson and Natasha Liu Bordizzo, the cast of Star Wars: Ahsoka includes Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker, Ray Stevenson as an Imperial Admiral who isn’t Thrawn, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Hera?), and Ivanna Sakhno in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
Star Wars: Ahsoka is coming to Disney+ in 2023.
