It’s amazing to think that in 2015, the Star Wars franchise is not available for digital download – or on any legal streaming service. Well, that is about to change.
Negotiations between 20th Century Fox and Disney have finally come to a close after a long, long time and they have announced that all six movies will be available for digital download for the first time ever this coming Friday, April 10th. Fox still hold the rights to physical distribution (DVDs, Blu-Rays, etc.), but Disney have the digital rights to all of the films bar Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. Now, all six films will be available at the same time.
“It’s only fitting that audiences enjoy this legendary saga and its many fascinating behind-the-scenes stories on a wide variety of platforms, and we’re very excited to finally bring all six films to Digital HD for the first time,” Alan Bergman, president of the Walt Disney Studios, said in a statement.
The Star Wars Saga will be available through Amazon, Google Play, iTunes and other major distribution networks. Not only will all six movies be available, but they will also come with new bonus content including conversations between legendary Star Wars artists, deleted scenes and new features. You can download all six films as a package, or individually.
