Disney and Lucasfilm brought the High Republic-era of the galaxy far, far away to live-action for the very first time this week with premiere of the new series Star Wars: The Acolyte, and Disney+ is now touting it as the streamer’s biggest launch of 2024 so far.
As reported by Variety, the show – created and showrun by Leslye Headland (Russian Doll) and starring Amandla Stenberg (Bodies Bodies Bodies) – amassed a total of 4.8 million views in its first 24 hours on the platform, although its not clear if that is a combined number across the two launch episodes.
While reviews have been very kind to The Acolyte [read our own here], many of those 4.8 million viewers don’t seem to share critics’ enthusiasm, with the show currently sitting on a 28% Rotten Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes compared to 91% Fresh with critics.
It will certainly be interesting to see how many return for subsequent episodes, and if you want to get a sneak peek at what’s to come in the week’s ahead, here’s the latest promo…
