J.J. Abrams’s sci-fi epic in a galaxy far, far away continues to smash records as Star Wars: The Force Awakens becomes the first film in history to cross $800 million domestically.
The film ended the weekend at the top of the US box office for the fourth week in a row, battling stiff competition from Golden Globe and Oscar contender The Revenant, with $41.6 million. This gives the movie a domestic total of $812 million and $1.73 billion worldwide. Still a long way to go before it tops Avatar. However, if it can keep up this pace or stay on cinema screens for long enough, there is a chance it could pass $1 billion domestically.
