UK box office top ten and analysis for the weekend of Friday 18th December to Sunday 20th December 2015…
This won’t really come as much of a surprise, but Star Wars: The Force Awakens has shattered a host of records at the UK box office.
Debuting on Thursday, the film pulled in the biggest ever opening day with £9.68m, biggest ever midnight opening (£2.4m) biggest ever Saturday (£8.71m), biggest ever Sunday (£8.58m), biggest ever three-day weekend (£24.33m), biggest ever four-day weekend (£34.01m), biggest ever UK IMAX opening (£3.4m) and biggest ever market share with 83% of all tickets sold.
Elsewhere in the chart, the Tina Fey / Amy Poehler comedy Sisters debuted in second place with £1,215,368, although that includes £734,000 from six days of previews. A couple of Bollywood releases also cracked the top ten with Dilwale claiming fourth place with £727,512 and Bajirao Mastani taking seventh with £297,573. Meanwhile, It’s a Wonderful Life also sneaked into the chart in tenth place with its annual re-release earning £96,893.
