Phil Szostak, the creative art manager at Lucasfilm, says that The Mandalorian showrunner Jon Favreau works in a similar way to George Lucas when it comes to Star Wars.
The Mandalorian has proved to be a huge hit and its second season on Disney+ is going from strength to strength, delighting Star Wars fans of all generations with its Original, Prequel and Sequel trilogies love.
Jon Favreau is the man at the helm of the series and according to Phil Szostak, Lucasfilm creative art manager and author of ‘The Art of…” books (including one for The Mandalorian), Jon Favreau collaborates with Star Wars artists in a very similar way that George Lucas did back in the day.
Speaking to StarWars.com (via SWNN), he said: “…Jon works in a way that’s very similar to George [Lucas], as far as working with concept artists. He’ll write a little bit and then he’ll say, ‘Hey, I’ve got some ideas. Here they are. I haven’t written anything down yet, though.’ And designs will be generated, concept art will be generated, fed back into Jon and that’ll spark more writing ideas. It’s a back and forth process and that’s precisely how George worked with his concept artists. It’s a very symbiotic relationship between writing and art.”
This process certainly seems to have worked so far with The Mandalorian‘s visuals and designs being celebrated across its run so far. Hopefully, the quality remains high and Favreau can take the series to even greater heights.
The Mandalorian season two sees Pedro Pascal (Din Djarin), Gina Carano (Cara Dune), Carl Weathers (Greef Karga), Giancarlo Esposito (Moff Gideon) and Bill Burr (Mayfield) joined by new cast additions Temuera Morrison (Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones), Katee Sackhoff (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), Timothy Olyphant (Justified), Michael Biehn (The Terminator) and WWE Superstar Sasha Banks.
The Mandalorian season two airs on Fridays on Disney+.
