As revealed in the promotional material for the film, the upcoming remake of Stephen King’s classic horror novel Pet Sematary makes a rather big change to the source material, with Louis Creed’s daughter Ellie now the one to come back from the dead, rather than toddler son Gage.
As indicated by actor Jason Clarke when we spoke to him last month (see the video below), Stephen King himself has no issue with the change, and the author has now shared his thoughts on the switch up during an interview with Entertainment Weekly:
“It’s something different,” states King. “They did a good job. Boy, I saw all the stuff that came online when people realized that it was Ellie rather than Gage that got run over in the road, and I’m thinking like, ‘Man, these people…’ It’s so nuts. You can take Route 301 and go to Tampa, or you could take Route 17 and go to Tampa. But both times, you’re gonna come out at Tampa! You know what I’m saying? It didn’t change anything for me. I thought, ‘Okay, I understand why they did it, because it’s maybe easier to work with a zombie when she’s a little girl than a toddler.’”

We’ll get to make our own mind up about the plot change when Pet Sematary opens in cinemas this week. You can read our review of the film here.
“Based on the seminal horror novel by Stephen King, Pet Sematary follows Dr. Louis Creed (Jason Clarke), who, after relocating with his wife Rachel (Amy Seimetz) and their two young children from Boston to rural Maine, discovers a mysterious burial ground hidden deep in the woods near the family’s new home. When tragedy strikes, Louis turns to his unusual neighbor, Jud Crandall (John Lithgow), setting off a perilous chain reaction that unleashes an unfathomable evil with horrific consequences.”
