Early reviews have had high praise for the big screen adaptation of Stephen King’s It, with some are calling it the best Stephen King adaptation in a long time. Interestingly, one of the film’s biggest fans so far is writer Stephen King himself. In an interview with Bloody Disgusting, the writer had high-praise for the upcoming adaptation of his book:
“I had hopes, but I was not prepared for how good it really was. It’s something that’s different, and at the same time, it’s something that audiences are gonna relate to. They’re gonna like the characters. To me, it’s all about character. If you like the characters… if you care… the scares generally work… I’m sure my fans will enjoy the movie. I think they’re gonna really enjoy the movie. And I think some of them will go back two or three times and actually savor the thing. I went back and saw it a second time, and I felt I was seeing things the second time through that I missed the first time.”
If anyone was actually worried that the film would be a retread of the TV miniseries, it seems that those fears can be put to bed. Even the writer of the book is calling the remake different. One of the most relieving parts of his reaction is his praise of the film’s characters. He’s right: it’s hard for horror to be effective without characters that you actually care about. The stakes are so much higher when you care about their safety. It also sounds like It has a lot of details to take in – maybe too much for one viewing. The early buzz, and Stephen King’s own ‘Stamp of Approval’ makes one relieved that we won’t have to wait much longer to see the film

It is set for release on September 8th, 2017, with Andy Muschietti directing Bill Skarsgard (Hemlock Grove) as Pennywise alongside Jaeden Lieberher (St. Vincent), Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things), Jack Dylan Grazer (Tales of Halloween), Wyatt Oleff (Guardians of the Galaxy), Chosen Jacobs (Cops and Robbers), Jeremy Ray Taylor (Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip), Owen Teague (Bloodline), Sophia Lillis (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) and Nicholas Hamilton (Captain Fantastic).
