Steve Martin denies Father of the Bride 3 rumours

June 18, 2014 by admin

We’ve not heard from George Banks since he was the father of the bride in the 1991 and 1995 comdies, but former Deadline Hollywood reporter (and founder) Nikki Finke claims that a third entry into the series was in development with Steve Martin reprising his role.

According to Finke, Father of the Bride 3 would see the now grown up Kieran Culkin (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World) come out as gay to act as the titular “bride” of the title. Something I’m sure the gay community would be thrilled about.

Finke wrote, “The twist in this threequel is that Little Matty is now 29 and gay and getting married to a Navy SEAL’s son.  Father of the bride George is “thunderstruck and speechless” and has problems with the whole gay thing. So wife Nina kicks him out of the house, according to the pitch which Disney loved.”

She continues, “‘It’s a timely idea,’ my source said. ‘I told Charles I just hope it goes forward before gay stops trending…'”

Steve Martin however was quick to say that this probably wasn’t true via Twitter.

So excited to read I’m doing Father of the Bride 3 since I haven’t seen a script or been offered the role!

Father of the Bride and its sequel Father of the Bride Part 2 were loosely based on the 1950s movies Father Of The Bride and Father’s Little Dividend, respectively.

Nikkie Finke has yet to remove the post (like she did with Ghostbusters 3 and Max Landis rumours) and she is apparently 100% correct on her DC Universe output (according to Kevin Smith) – so time will tell on this one.
